You sat in the pew. You might have seen/read the recent Standard Bearer. Do you think it's all better now? It's been "taken care of"? or perhaps "it's only in that church over there?" Demand better. Do better. Be better. Is there any way to read the current Standard Bearer online or post a link here? Curious who has read it and if anyone is willing to share high level the articles containing these courageous women. Sounds like the issue is the SB has been out for awhile - not hearing any uproar from within which is sad. Church members should be demanding answers and pews should be empty until real change happens Not sure if you have access to the forum section this was originally posted in, so here's a link: imgur.com/a/ZCbzjFp

They are having a huge problem with abuse and sexual abuse amongst the hierarchy. Do you want to have your dirty laundry aired in the public and online as they are? Insist that your hierarchy are all accountable to their congregants!

They are having a huge problem with abuse and sexual abuse amongst the hierarchy. Do you want to have your dirty laundry aired in the public and online as they are? Insist that your hierarchy are all accountable to their congregants! I would contend that they are not becoming Southern Baptist issue, but are in fact worse than the Southern Baptist issue since the Southern Baptists hired an outside firm (Guidepost Solutions) to investigate and find how many victims and offenders there were. PR/RP have not done that. The Southern Baptists at least have visibility into their problem. The PRC/RPC is still in the "just a few bad apples" phase, with zero visibility into the problem. They are multiple steps behind hiring an outside firm to investigate abuse issues, finding out how many abuse victims and abusers there are in their ranks, finding how the institution acted to hide those things, and then making the report public, having leadership agree to discuss the report publicly, and have a recommendation of creating an independent commission that would oversee reforms in the handling of sexual misconduct, and restricting the use of non-disclosure agreements and civil settlements by the accused. The SBC is lamenting and implementing reforms due to internal pressure and some very courageous and persistent activism. Awful as the SBC is, it is leagues ahead in dealing with their abuse issues compared to the PRC/RPC. To quote The Atlantic, "How many bad apples must we pluck before we recognize that the orchard is diseased." For anyone who has no idea what we're talking about. Here is a writeup by Russell Moore, who was a very high ranking and respected member of the Southern Baptist Convention and President of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission who had a very high profile resignation in June of 2021 regarding the ethical direction the church was taking and resistance he encountered towards instituting accountability, including pushback he received for his Abuse of Faith series which found more than 700 victims of abuse or misconduct by church leaders and volunteers over the last two decades. He went up against it and was silenced, investigated, harassed, and pushed out. He's now director of the Public Theology Project at Christianity Today. Here is the Guidepost report in full. For a long story short, the church "protected and even supported alleged abusers" and that calls and emails from survivors or survivor advocates would be "ignored, disbelieved, or met with the constant refrain that the SBC could take no action" because of how the church functions. The church was keeping a database of offenders and lied about its existence and kept it secret. Hundreds of victims. The top priority from the SBC church during the 2000-2021 time period for the abuse investigations? Avoiding liability. Sound familiar? Rachael Denhollander, oft quoted on this forum, was involved in this investigation with years of effort. She was also mentioned by Reverend Erik Guichelaar of Randolph PRC as a good resource to follow in his article "Resources related to sexual abuse" in the Standard Bearer special edition regarding abuse on page 355. Here's what Rachael Denhollander says: So what do you say, Reverend Erik Guichelaar? Want to take your own advice? Proactively seek outside help assessing your dynamics? Give investigators access to all information, and freedom to report it?

You are not alone. You are not the only one biting your tongue and swallowing tears. Breathe. There are others.

These people are hiding predators. You thought the Roman Catholic church was bad? Did you try reading this site? Did it ever cross your mind why they don't want you reading this site? This should speak volumes. Demand better. Do better. Be better. Accountability doesn’t take a break for summer. You’re still in that pew. Demand better. Do better. Be better.

As you sit in the pew this Sunday just remember: you may leave. . It might be/will be difficult at times…but you can leave. Perhaps that is what you need to remember.

Another weekend of wasted time in your life. Were you edified, or did you just pass the time with more candy and pew people watching? So dumb.

The only change you can truly do is changing your habits, and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
The church is going to take serious infrastructure changes in order to change, if at all—-however, we all have the capability of doing the next right thing, however small.

This should speak volumes. Demand better. Do better. Be better. If the leaders/authorities hide evil, sinful, heinous activity.....are they really leaders? or are they enablers? Are they being deliberate and wise, or are they delaying and scared? You don't have to be a "leader" to know when a direction/a sermon/an action is godly and appropriate OR when it is WRONG. Your life is YOUR responsibility, not some leader's. You are the first line of defense for yourself, and then for others around you (vis-à-vis the flight attendant's spiel) Demand better. Do better. Be better. (I'm over here at that other church, I'll make sure to visit with you when you come)
