Hi Heidi, The FB group is called Shining LIGHT on Abuse. If you tell me your FB name I can also add you. It’s been Very triggering for me to post much lately so less posts than in the past. Most of the group is still current PRs. Annise Thank you my friend. I do not want to bring any uncomfortableness there and feel maybe it would be best that I not join in this current climate with the podcast having been so recently released. If you feel differently, then I am ready to join if you feel I'm a good fit there.

The PRs are now commenting on the podcast. There are now 2 very long comments made by professing PRs. Feel free to read them and reply if you wish. I will reply to them after giving it some thought. Happy Saturday!! Finally, a response!

I checked out the comments from Derrick and Susan the other day. Just went back today and now I see there are quite a few more comments from current PRC members, but those comments are much more critical of the PRC.

If, by any chance, Derrick Span is reading here and is interested in talking some more about his positions he espoused in his comments on Youtube, I would love to private message on here about them and discuss them in depth. I'm not looking for a debate or argument or anything, I'd just like to talk about it some more and ask some questions. Felt like a public discussion in the Youtube comment section wouldn't be the right format for something like this.
If you're interested Derrick, please send me a PM!

There's quite a few comments now. The ones on how the PR church is taking on this abuse problem in the church makes me angry, but it is to be expected. A pastor on sabbatical to study the issue, seminarians with further training, planned lectures, running abuse claims through the proper presbyterian ladder of Church, Classis, and Synod. Come on! I truly hope change is in the works, and hopefully they engage women and children in whatever they come up with as they are conspicuously missing in the list above, and covertly the abused in PR history.
Yet, I can't help but think that if they come up with an abuse committee or something they will soon realize that they will have to hold The PRCA itself accountable, it is an abuser.
Does anyone know of a local church that has a policy in place? If they are working on one in some church please tell me women are involved in creating and setting the policy, including training, yes, training even of men, and who better for training young ones, appropriately of course. I was disappointed that nothing publicly came out on abuse in their Synod. Maybe it was talked about in close session. I think that's where they want to keep it.

I am aware that my congregation is putting together multiple procedures for prevention and reactionary. I have not heard if women are involved in the process of formulating these procedures. My understanding is that it’s being done by lawyers. Your questions are valid however, and now I intend to find out. I am finding that I need to give the leadership in my church Grace. My personal history means that I have, over the past two years, done more reading on the topic of abuse, sexual sins, and healing, than most ministers have done. I cannot expect lay- men who have never even thought about the topic, to have the same perspectives as myself. The resources that I have seen them using have been good. Very basic, but a good starting point. I myself recommended multiple books to my pastor, and I do know that he had read them. They were not “PR books “or even “reformed books, so I don’t know how he took them. But they did change both myself, my husbands, and my parents lives. so some of ministers, at least, have read alternative authors. The way this resolves determines my families future in this denomination.

I am aware of one church put together a committee made up of 3 men. People aren’t very confident in what they are going to put in place

The people of prca need to take a lesson from the Catholic Church. The Catholic church tolerated sexual abuse of its members for centuries, few if any attempts if any were made to prevent it until recently. Truth is all they did was transfer abusers to a new church where they were free to abuse again. What stopped them was lawsuits. After they were forced to pay millions to the victims they started to put safeguards in place. It may take a few brave people and a few lawsuits to get the prca to to take the matter seriously.

I know of place in Canada where the Catholic Church had so many lawsuits they had to sell their churches to pay off the debt!

I think some CPS equivalent was taking indigenous children out of their homes and placing them in Catholic foster care, and many of them seem to have died there and been buried on the property. It's mysterious why specifically indigenous children weren't being given proper care... fact check me on all of this... There were some Native Americans who visited the Vatican after this was discovered and were shown a bunch of art and relics of various sorts made by natives that made its way to the Vatican. It was supposed to be like a sign of Catholic appreciation for native traditions. Their response? "How did you get those? We'd like those to be returned to the tribes they came from."

But I came across this stuff through podcasts, so everyone should definitely look it up for themselves if they want the correct story.
