I have been thinking on this for awhile now and especially after reading the comments by both PRs and RPs on my podcast on YouTube.
You both profess and swear that you are the most pure church. So, who is purer? Truer? More perfect? You argue and fight and split over little issues because you'd rather be "right and truer" than actually treat people how Jesus said you should. No, I don't believe either of them is right OR truer but they sure do. They seem far more concerned with legalism and laws than they do with actually loving.
The God they profess? I do believe He loved us, died for us actually, while we were still sinners. Do they love like that? Do they believe that if Jesus were on this earth right now that He would be patting them on the head and eating with them? No, no He wouldn't. He liked eating with sinners. He ate with those who were not all about the law and rules and religious requirements. He sought out those who in fact were the opposite of that. The church He started?? It looked nothing like the rule filled, legalism rampant then in the Jewish communities.
If Jesus dropped Himself into the middle of the PR/RP culture right now, I do not believe they would like what He had to say to them. Jesus doesn't use a broom to sweep things under rugs to stay hidden and handled behind closed doors by a few men who strive to keep up the "church" and its appearance to the world. Jesus didn't much care for outward appearance. The abuse you have hidden? It would not be overlooked by your God. Every single bit of it would be pulled out from under those rugs. Those you destroyed in the name of preserving your "pure" church? I dare say that the Jesus they profess would love them and seek them out. You are so damn focused on laws. Get your face out of the OT and wrap your mind around the fact that Jesus came to fulfill the laws. He fulfilled the reason for those ot laws. While I'm on that, you cannot pick and choose which of those OT laws you still follow. If you follow one or two, you need to follow them all. The church Jesus started here wasn't supposed to look like the Pharisees started it. The Pharisees would flock to the PR/RP churches. Why?? Because the rules are god there. Legalism flourishes. People are cast out.
Why did I post this? I posted because I have had direct conversations with members of both the PR church and the RP church (does everyone find this split as ridiculous as I do?) I asked all of them 2 questions. Do you believe I'm a child of God? They all said yes, we absolutely do believe you are. Next question. Do you believe I'm going to heaven? Again, all said yes without hesitation. At that point its time for them to answer the third question. If both of those are true..Heidi is a child of God and she is going to heaven...how dare they presume God wants them to ban me from their fellowship. Let me get this straight. In the name of godliness, they say they must ban me from their membership. Yet God Himself says I'm worthy of being in His house. That's what they themselves said to me. How dare they judge me, a Child Of God (their words), and say I am not worthy of their church. How will they answer God when He asks them why Heidi, and so many others, were not good enough for them. Why they didn't love those that God loves. I can't fathom how they connect the dots and come up with their way of doing church. It starts with thinking. Observing. Questioning what doesn't make sense. Demanding change in order to be what your God calls you to be in the world. The hypocrisy and dripping condescension they spread around as they proclaim their pureness and trueness. It's so ugly!
One last thing. To those sitting in those pews every Sunday. Talking isn't enough if it doesn't bring real change. Your little special editions in the SB mean nothing if change doesn't happen. I'm here to tell you that nothing changed. I have so many messages from your members or former members who have been so hurt by your church. Your response to that??? Attack the ones you hurt and defend your precious pure church. Defend the vileness of your churches actions by hiding behind "we aren't perfect, we had a couple speeches about abuse, we released a special edition of our SB". My favorite, "things are different now." No, no I don't believe they are. There's just a lot of scrambling to try and keep things hidden and covered and silent.
Remember this Pr/RP church members. What table did Jesus sit at? That's the table I'm sitting at. Where are you choosing to sit? Are you sitting with Him, or are you sitting at the other table muttering in outrage about the people He is sitting and eating with. Think long and hard about the real answer to that question.
Happy Tuesday forum people!
