And sources tell me they can't stand it. Oh dear, I wonder if it will be discussed at synod? They will probably be weeping and wailing and complaining about being persecuted. I am guessing they will appoint a committee to address this site. |

I know all about the pants pull downs It's done to humiliate the child Crazy! Now that this has been brought up, it brings back so many memories from past ministers. At the time, it was acceptable! That's the crazy part. Now looking back, it's horrible. Why not use names? Who and when? Why are we hiding them? I'm not interested it giving up my identity. But if I had to, I would. |

What kind of “training” do the seminary students at the prca seminary receive about reporting child abuse to civil authorities? Does anyone know? How about teachers in the colleges? Any training? I really don’t know myself.
In the elementary school I know, there is a mandatory reporter and a second chosen from the staff , whose name is then recorded on a sheet of paper handed out with all the other sheets of paper , so there is state law compliance there.
But I’m asking more than a name on a paper,
Is there any training, any teaching of teachers about signs and intervention of child abuse? Any that the pr teachers would receive?
I bet not.

I suspect it's like taking a college science class for them. Give the answers required to pass, then immediately revert to those ignorant 6,000 year old earth, intimidating patriarchal confines in which they find so much comfort and exclusivity. I have found the herd is much more important than a calf with this sect. I hope I am proven wrong, but suspect already cases being sweeped under the rug as I write. |

What exactly are you referring to? Some parents spank by pulling the child's pants and underwear down so their butt is exposed and spanking the bare bottom. Referred to as bare-bottom spankings sometimes. Yes, I remember these very well and feeling embarrassed to stand before my Dad sans no underwear and at the age of 10. Something I will never forget. I did not go down that road with my kids! |

Only once did I get this and it was from my mom over a lie I told her. Other than that I would get a wooden spoon. I also have never spanked my kids., instead I talk to to them calmly about what they did and they had other punishments like cleaning or being grounded from things. I don’t want my kids to fear me, I want them to know people make mistakes and that’s ok as long as we learn from them. Even as an adult and as a parent I make mistakes but I want to make sure they feel like they can talk to me about things without fear. I’m trying to be the parent I wished I had, one I could talk to. |

I just found my way here and I am literally thanking God! So much abuse in so many forms. School was a terror for me. Would I get the thin rod slashing down on my open palms or a paddling that left bruises??? Would my 6th grade teacher still be touching the girls, feeling for a bra strap, telling us to come to her for quarters if we needed them for that time. She certainly enjoyed using the rod on students behinds. I can't believe my childhood was real at times. Misery describes it. I thought I was alone out here after my escape years ago. I refused to allow my children to be raised in this culture!

This site was very helpful in validating my own experiences. Although this site can sometimes cause me to get hung up in the “anger” phase, i try to mostly be a positive and supportive presence for those still in and working their way out. (Btw anger is totally justified, its just not healthy for me personally where im at. Did a lot of long work to get thru that) |
