This book was written by a woman who escaped a ultra-religious community in Brooklyn New York. The entire title of the book is Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots. The books is quite good. I was wondering if any former or current Protestant Reformed member had read the book and could identify with any of the situations that the author talked about.

For those that prefer drama on the screen instead of written, this book was made into a Netflix series and is pretty good. The Hasidic culture is different than the PRC culture, but my wife and I could relate to the general feeling of guilt, shame and control that is in the PRC culture. The way that women are portrayed being treated has some parallels also.

Cults identify with each other in this fashion. Check out this thread for a comparison: exprc.freeforums.net/thread/347/common-characteristics-cults-operate
