Funeral potatoes....aka cheezy hash brown casserole... that was always fun. Ham bun and 8 difference cheesey potato options on your plate. So many people would bring those so you waded through all the options... diced, shredded, sliced. Sometimes it was an oil covered mess. Sometimes the potatoes still had some crisp to them because partly raw is still edible. Some had lots of things hidden in them that I didn't like. Lol. Some with a topping. Some bare of topping... like being a pious potato dish was somehow holier. Can't have too much flare on your casserole ladies. Looking back, cooking skills weren't often strong. Lol. Hence the endless casserole options. Just dump, stir, and go... not to mention just add lots of cream of something soup and rice and you could stretch that recipe to feed the masses! And then the dreaded elementary school hot lunch... Boiled generic hotdogs Runny BBQ with chunks of onion Bags of chips (cheetos always went fast) Ice cream sundae cups with wooden paddles to eat them Never, ever different. No surprise kids. Excitement must be tamped down. Can't have your taste buds in an excited tizzy... it could lead to pregnancy. So many foods associated with church and school. Oh, Mogan David in the lords supper shot glasses. I can smell it to this day. I always was envious that the preacher got to pour his. He always had more than we did! Is it sad that I always got excited for BBQ hot lunch day as a kid? lol And also, the clamor to get the orange pushups from the freezer before they ran out! (Popular kids went to the front usually. Ugh. Memories) Mmmm the orange push-ups were the best
