That little voice in the back of your head that says "This is wrong", that's right. Don't lose that. I am watching this now. It is downright creepy. And,yes, reminds me so much of PRC

Anyone else watching 'Shiny Happy People' on Amazon Prime about the Duggar Family/IBLP/Bill Gothard? Bill Gothard was never married or had children and yet he was the authority on family life. Please question those who claim authority. Bill Gothard simply gained authority by saying he had the authority. I finally sat down to watch this. 'Gotta tell you, it's incredibly hard to watch because it transports you right back to the PRCA with all of their crazy rules. Once there, it seems logical what's going on in this family, which in itself is so twisted. Then you poke holes in the family - what's super biblical and what's superficial, also twisted. From an observation perspective, after the first episode, this threw me in direct comparison with the PRCA in regard to the conventions, governed by who else but the trusted leadership, the Van Overloops of the PRCA world. Geez. As a parent still suck in the PRCA, you might really want to pay attention to with whom you trust your kids to, if you're not already abusing them at home. Yikes. This system is exactly like the PRCA - throw Matthew 18 in there to block the victim, not to fix the abuse. So friggen typical. Eye opening. Then again, my posts here probably go ignored by those who need to hear it.

Just finished watched. Started this morning and couldn't stop. It was so earily similar to PR. I took a few notes while watching and many of you spoke on them already so I don't need to include those. I do have to stress though how much Bill is like RVO. It sickened me to hear some of the things he did to young girls, RVO did to other young girls and guess what? He got away with it too. Sickening how church perverts can cover up so much with some cash.
Few other things. Someone in the show spoke of the vivid nature of hell, the threat of hell. Didn't you get that with every sermon growing up PR? It's vivid. You'll burn forever. There is hardly forgiveness it seems.
The Matthew 18 principle makes it SO HARD for an abused victim to even go to their abuser and yet this is what is also taught in PR. To make it worse, girls aren't taught about predators, especially in this case and RVO, they were "godly" men who could do no wrong. The words and actions from Bill and RVO were taken as if they were coming straight from God.
In this series it spoke of a woman whose child was raped by her father. The mother was taught to go back to her husband and make it right. Haven't we witnessed that too in PR? Sent back to our abusive spouses?? Spouses who rape their wives and beat on their children?
This one gets me.... How you are supposed to raise your children. "Blanket method" where you smack the child for touching a toy outside the blanket perimeter. How you let your child scream itself to sleep and learn how to "cope" at a horrifically young age. I've witnessed this crying out method on a baby only a couple months old. It is SICK.
The "train up a child" book they spoke of. I have definitely been told about that book in PR. Pretty sure someone even gave me a copy. You use that book and you are doing untold psychological damage to your child. You are breaking your child's God given spirit.
Another quote from the series "loyalty can be demonstrated only in adversity." I know I've definitely heard it was "my cross to bear" quite a few times.
Bit all over the place so I apologize but those were a couple things I picked out from this series. I highly recommend watching. I'd insist if I could. Eye opening and sickening.

The bravery too of those who spoke up in the series is remarkable as well, I need to mention that.

I love how they "statement-proof statement-proof" everything with bible verses too - just like somebody else I know.

This website is devoted to people impacted by the teachings and abuse by PRCA leadership, PRC culture, and PRC idolatry. The fact it exists speaks volumes, cries volumes: exprc.freeforums.net/

I've watched the first three episodes. I don't think it surprises anyone on this site of the uncanny similarities between this family or the IBLP to the PRCA. If you were to ask a PRCA member about these preternatural harmonies between the clades, they would get defensive and boil it down to doctrine as the distinctive difference. Everything is boiled down to that difference, doctrine, isn't it? That difference is what you worship every Sunday. It's what your daughter worships, and her bitch too; it's what your cult worships. That difference is what turns a blind eye to abuse and more. But, it doesn't play out anymore, PRCA. Your playbook has been exposed, your likenesses to abusive religions far outweigh the differences. You too need to be shut down and exposed. You have become, like the IBLP, evil. Leave.

It was pretty disgusting how they focused mainly on how a woman dresses that makes the men lust. Maybe parents should start raising their sons to respect women for a change? Wouldn't that be quite the concept. 🙄🙄🙄 They wouldn't let their kids play with Barbie's because Barbies are "harlots". Cabbage patch kids because they are "demon filled". They called knee length skirts with a small slit an "eye trap" and had a code word so the boys looked down. And you wonder why so many young boys (girls too I'm sure) start looking at porn? Why they start to get other thoughts in their heads about women? Start talking to your kids. My goodness it's so frustrating. I refuse to raise my sons that way, or my daughters. They will not be raised how I was. The girls will see a purpose other than reproduction and both genders will treat each other with respect and dignity.

yeah - we just finished this last night... trauma, trauma, trauma! I remember when Josh Dugger was first exposed as having sexually abused his sisters and I posted something on FB saying that I thought he should be charged and go to jail for this. He did the crime and should pay pay the time... and I got LAMBASTED by so many conservative "christians" who said I was a liberal (insert name here) I was unforgiving, what he did wasn't that bad and so much more ~ it was so bad! The ideocracy of people who follow and idolize men instead of following the the true Jesus is so frustrating to me. What about the victims? People just don't care about them, especially if they are women
