This week has been a high anxiety and triggering week for so many. I thought it might be nice to create a thread to discuss things we can do for ourselves in terms of self care. I especially would like to focus on things we can do for ourselves, if possible, as I think there may be some of us who are lonely and may not have very good support systems or may not feel comfortable reaching out yet. Or maybe some just need a reminder or a fresh idea.
For example, one thing I like to do is find very calming music, play it at full blast, and lay or sit outside for a while.
What do some of you like to do? Perhaps a long bath or get lost in a good fiction?

I love to listen to worship music at high volume, and sing along (the kind of music you'd never hear in a PR church). And, I love to focus on the freedom and joy we have in Jesus. It's reaching back; Dino and Andre Crouch have some very non-PR and very wonderful stuff as well. The stream of high-quality Christian music is WAY broader than the 1912 Psalter. I have been known to jam to a bit of Skillet at the gym as well. If I don't watch out, I will end up on a diatribe about how exclusive Psalmody actually obscures the fact that Jesus is the Christ. But I've probably hijacked enough threads already....

Back to the topic at hand...I got out of town for a day to break up the routine. I contacted some non-PR friends about PR doings as a sanity check. Conclusion: I am sane, and they are not. Physical exercise has demonstrated physical and mental benefits. And just get outside if you can as well. Hope that helps somebody.

Love this thread idea.
Something that helps me is doing things with my hands that are very methodical. My two go-tos are needlework and weaving. There’s an artist I listen to at the same time called Vindsvept. He makes mostly folk fantasy instrumental tracks and it feels like it fits with what I am doing. I can get super lost in it and hours will pass without me paying much notice.
I also enjoy taking walks to clear my head or settle down after something big has happened.

I go out in the woods, preferably by a stream or river, smoke a joint and listen.

Practice sitting with the feelings. Don't try to escape them or distract yourself from them. Takes a lot of work, as it goes against the PR up bringing and the coping mechanisms I was taught, to suppress and dismiss so much, and put on a facade.
Feel all the feelings. Learn to love yourself and be there for yourself.

You need someone to talk to. You need it. You need your person to speak to about all of this and it could be quite hard for your person.
My husband and I like to watch game shows, we like to play video games together, we LOVE to listen to music (which is probably the most healing for me). We go down to our river and sit in our chairs and enjoy the water washing our feet and seeing our kids play.

I’ve felt it this week myself. Get some fresh air and sunshine. Go for a walk in the woods. Stick my barefeet in the dirt and the water. Sit on my porch with an adult beverage to relax, watch and listen to the birds. Vent to my loved one, reach out to friends. Play with my dog. Listen to music.
