This YouTube video is interesting and worth watching if you would like to open your mind to some other views regarding the phenomenon's that go against nature in the Bible....or do they? I am not convinced that God created the perfect timing in his creation, but then did tricks that confuse and confound. I am interested in the possibility that the events in scripture are explainable with science - which gives even more power to God that he can control nature with such power for his purposes.
Set some time aside - its long, but fascinating.

Set some time aside - its long, but fascinating. A long video, not sure if I will watch or not. I appreciate that you are interested in science explaining events in scripture, as far as that can go. However, science cannot and does not try to explain the supernatural. I am more perturbed by those that use scripture to explain science as if scripture is a textbook; with them entering their investigations with a predetermined outcome in mind, and reading scripture as a 21st century inerrantist rather than in the mode of ancient literary interpretation as was heard by those to whom God chose to reveal Himself in a certain place, culture and time. I also agree with you wholeheartedly in that our learning (science) about creation, in its many beautiful, awesome, pleasing, ugly, disturbing, pleasant, violent, confusing, and still much to learn about aspects does attribute to God a power not afforded to those with a literal reading of The Bible, in my opinion. Their interpretation demands an anti-intellectual, hocus pocus reading and has raised a cottage industry of pseudo-science, in my opinion (e.g. AIG). At some point in time the evidence demands a re-reading and interpretation, as in the time of Galileo or in the ancients understanding of the "pillars of the earth" and the "firmament" which were taken literally. (e.g. flat earth). For me that time was years ago as I found the evidence substantial and overwhelming. The PRC, on the other hand, cautions and discourages a study of creation as taught by those who have devoted their lives to its study, by both Christians and non-Christians alike. They can easily accept the tangible benefits of this science while at the same time deride the same science (and scientists) that brings them these benefits. I find it hypocritical, actually. Sadly, as has been mentioned time and again in the posts of this site, it is about control and fear, I fear. As far as the Star of Bethlehem, to me it does not really play an important part of the story. Whether there was actually a star as is mentioned in only one chapter of the Bible, or a convergence, or whatever means nothing to me. I watched the first few minutes of this documentary and it struck me that, after he mentions "the three wisemen", how tradition plays such a big part of the Christmas story for the world now and how this tradition has changed over the years to where now Christmas seems like a charade at times. "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." - John 1:14 (Truth: Star of Bethlehem or not, literal creation or not, Calvinist or not, PRCA member or not). Don't bind me with your man made "truths" PRCA. I know where my hope lies. That being said, Merry Christmas all...you too PRCA.

(BTW...The three wise men comment is addressed later in the video...it is explained how we believe simply what we are taught and are not taught to discern - because, as you allude to, we do not know the actual number, it is an assumption based on the number of gifts.
Have a great Christmas!
