From the article: (There’s a well-known saying: “One Dutchman is a theologian, two are a church and three are a schism.”)
Where I come from, many denominations have come to evangelise for years. The Methodist, Anglicans etc set up schools so that girls, especially, get to go to school. They set up charities, hospices and hospitals too. The country progresses and the peace enables the gospel to spread and Christians to worship.
The PRCA comes into the midst of a young Christian group to form them into a church. 10 years on, a schism occurs, and the original group splits up over one of the PRCA's distinctives. They cannot see that in a place with people they call heathens, doctrinal distinctives like DnR, election and reprobation are not life and death issues. Preaching the gospel is.

An excerpt......"In the years after their immigration, the Netherlands became less religious and more permissive. My grandparents came to view their homeland as a country that had chosen the broad way. Today, the Netherlands is one of the least religious places in the world — 66 percent of its population of 17 million has no church affiliation. One in six clergy in the largest Protestant church are agnostic or atheist. Sliding religious practices corresponded with legalized cannabis cafés, red-light districts and a permissive attitude on everything from abortion to same-sex marriage and euthanasia." Interesting - groups like the PRC try to maintain a standard that is not humanly possible, and will breed deceit and secrecy among its members. It is bound to fail. One of this cults distinctives is 'saved only by grace', yet they have become one of the most work righteous groups I have known. They are actually proud of their humility before 'their' god. So twisted!

I know of a group called The Clergy Project which is aimed at people in these positions - agnostic or atheistic religious leaders. I have often wondered if there are any ministers in the PRC who secretly no longer agree with what they preach, but feel they have to hide it in order to continue supporting themselves and their families. I would guess that there are no PRC clergy members that are secretly agnostic atheists, but I would not be surprised if there are some who disagree on certain doctrinal points.

What doctrine, if I may ask? Just curious.

What doctrine, if I may ask? Just curious. Sabbatarianism. Why do you stay in the church?

Ron Hanko used a quote from Darwin in his signature line on an orchid site that he apparently thought no one watched. Nowhere in his signature does he profess to be a christian, much less a preacher. He literally has tens of thousands of posts - about orchids, not his precious church. Speaks volumes. By the way, since this site posted about him, he has changed his signature.

I spent some time looking into this because I was curious to see if he ever gave any indication of actually accepting the theory of evolution or if he just seemed to be using quotes of Darwin to fit in with the other people on the board. I couldn't make up my mind on what side he landed on, but I did find a post that I didn't see screenshotted elsewhere on here. It's from one of his blogs,

For posterity's sake: orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/04/angraecum-urschianum.htmlThe post reads, "Angraecum urschianum is a micro-miniature species in a genus that includes some massive plants and flowers. It is also in the same genus as the plant whose flowers when seen by Darwin were the basis for his prediction, later proved true, that a moth would be found with a twelve inch tongue (the flowers have nectaries that are a foot long). " Then there's another post orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/02/angraecum-breve.htmlThe post reads, "It was an Angraecum, a different species and a much larger plant, with flowers carrying a 12 inch spur, that Darwin used to predict the existence of a moth with a 12 inch tongue. This flower is probably also moth pollinated. I've included pictures of the unopened bud with the spur curled up and a pictures taken as the flower opened and the spur uncurled." A comment by Ron on that same page reads, "Thanks, Marti. It would be something to see the moth at work, but I have seen a video someone took of the larger moth predicted by Darwin at work on a flower. I'll have to see if I can find it." They should also be on archive.org on the wayback machine. web.archive.org/web/20180910130015/https://orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/02/angraecum-breve.htmlweb.archive.org/web/20180910125924/https://orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com/2012/04/angraecum-urschianum.html

Ron Hanko is really into Darwin! I saw the posts a while back, but this is something I have never seen! I wonder if anywhere on his thousands of posts he has ever told anyone he is a Protestant Reformed minister and is supposedly against evolution. This guy is playing two sides.

No, in fact if you're familiar with advanced Google operators he hardly says anything at all about religion period on any of his blogs. If you enter something like "site:orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.com minister" into the google search bar, you'll see nothing was indexed. This is better than using the search on his actual blog because it will use synonyms and search his comments as well rather than just the text of his posts. These were the only references I could find to his religious background: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/10/heliotrope-ridge-revisited.htmlronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/08/northwest-washington-fair.html

No mention of the name of the School, congregation, ministry, denomination - nothing. This guys hiding his candle. If you know Ron, you would know that he is one of the most judgmental ministers in the denomination. He is a complete chauvinist, displays zero tolerance for women in the workplace, he fully supports beating children to a pulp, he truly shows himself to be one person in the PRC circles, and another person with his orchid crowd. Disgusting.
